After more than a year of preparation, the day was almost there. We had the church rehearsal two days before the wedding on June 2nd and went on with the last minute preparations. The night before the wedding, I had my bride’s maid sleep over at my house. Although I planned to sleep early to be fresh for my big day, it didn’t go as planned as I was too nervous to sleep on time. Since I wasn’t able to fall asleep, I decided to brainstorm my wedding speech and finally went to sleep. Before I knew it, my doorbell rang at 5am and the make-up artist and her assistant were there as promised. We all got up and took a bath quickly. The make-up artist started her work on me while the assistant took care of the bride’s maids. By then, my family and all my relatives who came from oversees were up and doing the last minute preparation. Then came the hairstylist and she did her magic on me and the bride’s maids. As that was going on, my cute little cousins who were the flower girl and the little maid arrived for their make-up and hairstyle. We then went on to put on our wedding outfits and jewelleries. By this time, the photographer and the videographer have already arrives and took shots and videos of us getting ready.
Then they took different poses of me alone, with the bridal party, family and friends. Just when we got ready to leave, it started to pour outside. Luckily, the limo driver had 2 huge umbrellas and helped us get in the limo without soaking in the rain. Although we were a bit late we arrived at church and I was so nervous to make my walk down the aisle. It was one of the most nerve-wrecking yet excited for the best moment of my life. We all lined up in the foyer as rehearsed and made our way down the aisle one by one. And finally it was my turn and I saw my fiancé standing at the front of the altar and I slowly made my way down with my father. My father finally took my hand and rested it in his and we walked to our seats. The mass went smoothly and we exchanged vows, rings and tied the thaali (a wedding tradition in my culture). We signed our marriage papers with the priests and the witnesses and we were pronounced as husband and wife. Following that we released the dove, which was brought in as a surprise by my brother. We then headed off to the park to take some pictures with the bridal party.
After the photo shoot at the park we went to our hotel to relax to be refreshed for the reception. Then finally the time came for reception and we headed to the banquet hall on a horse carriage. Once at the banquet hall, we made our grand entrance with the tassa (kettle drum) band. The reception went as planned with music, dancing, speeches and lots of pictures.
